If you can cast your mind back, you might remember the post I did about the TouchArcade forums anticipating the launch of the Hector : Badge of Carnage point and click adventure game.
Well, I have been keeping an eye on these forums, as too has Hector as he has pitched in with a few cheeky comments every now and again, and I must say that the forum folk are an extremely decent bunch of spuds. They have been extremely complimentary about the game, providing some invalubale user feedback on the game which will come in very handy indeed for the second episode. And it is great to see people enjoying the game as much as we have. We just thought we were all mad, so it is nice to know we are not alone in our madnes if nothing else. I thought that I would share with you some of the comments that have caught my eye over the last few weeks:
“Omg. What a game, what a game. Love the humor love the animation love the everything about this. My only fear is it might be over quickly cuz I’m having so much fun.”
“I can’t believe how damn perfect this game is.”
“I have to concur, and the humour is just fantastic! How this made it past Apple I have no clue. But I’m in love with this, and I never buy 3.99 games out right without extensive checking and review reading.”
“Genuine bolt from the blue this one! Anyone even vaguely interested in point and (tap?) click adventure games really owes it to themselves to purchase this game. At full price too, any way to encourage the dev to get episode 2 out sooner seriously don’t wait or ask for price drops as it would be an insult to the dev in my opinion. The fact that a game of this sort of quality can suddenly appear with little fanfare on the AppStore is amazing.”
“This game is filthy, irreverent, misanthropic, twisted, and smart as a whip. Anyone remotely interested in point-and-click adventure games — or, really, British humor in general — needs to pick this up now. One of the best games I’ve played recently on any platform. The one liners come fast and furious and, for once, are genuinely funny. This is precisely the kind of mature (in the sense of being fully formed) games people keep saying they want for the platform. Well, it’s here. Go get it.”
“I truly hope other Devs take a good hard look at what the Devs for this game did and follow it’s example so future games with this sort of quality can be more abundant.”
“this game HANDS DOWN will stand as one of the FAVOURITE games on the appstore.”
“Wow!!! Finally something worth paying a big chunk of money!!! Congrats to the devs. This game took me back to the Day of the Tentacle / Sam & Max days, but with a Dirty Cop twist”
“The intro alone is worth double the money!!! Incredible! Just incredible! Now, this game is a reason to own the iPhone/iPod! Seriously. Please throw all prizes in the world at the dev team!!”
“Damn this game is even funnier than the most famous Lukas titles. Instant classic, if you ask me.”
“Wonderful game, this. Congratulations, developers. And to anyone holding off for a sale, seriously, this game is well worth the asking price & if you’re looking for a quality game, then just give your support and buy it now. You won’t regret it.”
“Seriously, get this game now ! There are some things that are simply worth the price; waiting for a sale be damned !!! This is one of the top ten games I have for the iTouch or iPad, out of hundreds. It is certainly the TOP game in its category.”
“The humor and attitude are top-notch. If Rowan Atkinson had crossed with Monty Python and the Shield to create a game, this might just be it ! Best characters in a game in a long time.”
And those are only some of the great things people have been saying about Hector : Badge of Carnage. If this doesn’t send you scampering off to iTunes to check out the game then there is just not point in me carrying on. Although, plenty of people have already said that to me today so maybe there is something in it. Whether I carry on or not, take this bit of advice as a possible parting shot from me.
Hector : Badge of Carnage, the first installment of the trilogy of point and click adult adventure games, has been a labour of love and also a labour, of well, labour, over the last few months, and SlideToPlay were one of the few sites who picked up on our exploits and have been very supportive throughout the whole production process.
So it was no surprise that they were one of the first sites to review the game after it was released. So here, a mere 10 weeks after the event I have decided to remove the digit from where the sun don’t shine (and by that I don’t mean Clackton-On-Sea) and write a post about it.
Click on the image above to read the review yourself, which I would recommend doing if only to read the comments and the fiesty debate that broke out after the article was posted. I haven’t witnessed a reaction as heated as that since I swapped Hector’s Hemorrhoid cream from a tube of chilli puree.
With Stellar Cut-Scenes and Witty Dialogue – Hector : Badge of Carnage is championed as an edgy and original adventure game and given 3/4. And I would have to agree!
In our defence, the points in which we were marked down for need to be clarified, your honour. To be marked down for not having an in-game hint system is a bit of a blow as there actually is one, in the form of Lambert, Hector’s sidekick who is always on hand to provide help and assistance. Albeit in his own unique way! The game is also not particularly short. Hector contains at least 3 hours of gameplay, and potentially a great deal more if you explore all areas of the game and also if you are, how can I put it, not the ripest melon in the fruit bowl. And all this for £2.39. I just went to see Toy Story 3 in my local cinema. It cost me £8 and only lasted 90 minutes. Not that I am trying to compare what Pixar produce to what we produce, as they are very different beasts, but in terms of value for money I think 3 hours is pretty good going for the cost of a poke of Popcorn at the cinema. And with regards to the UK Slang. Let’s face it, who isn’t a fan of a bit of UK slang!? ‘Alright Treacle! You should have seen the look on my Chevy Chase after that Ruby last night. I though I had solied my Alans’ And so forth…
But to cut a short story long, Hector : Badge of Carnage is a great game and I suggest that you march yourself off to the App Store sharpish and get yourself a copy for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Click here to go to iTunes now or go to www.thehectorfiles.tv to find out more about Hector : Fat Arse of the Law.
TouchArcade, the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad games reviews and news site have posted a review about our very own point and click adventure game Hector : Badge of Carnage.
I could sit here and tell you all about what they say about the game, but they have done all the hard work for me already:
Irish animation studio Straandlooper is really pushing the suggestive limits of the App Store with the first installment of their episodic adult adventure game, Hector: Badge of Carnage [$3.99]. This point and click adventure game (or, more accurately, point and tap I suppose) puts players in charge of Hector, a police officer from the town of Clappers Wreake. The game opens with a fantastically drawn and voiced over animated cut scene which really sets the bar for the rest of the game.
I couldn’t put it better myself so I won’t even try! A big thanks to everyone at TouchArcade for the article and also a big thanks to all of the people who commented on the article, like squarezero for pointing out the Lambert hint system that we built into the game, and kanthan, who loves not only the Hector game but now the iPhone as a result of it! Well really appreciate all of your feedback.
Hector : Badge of Carnage really is as good as everyone keeps saying it is so all I can do now is show you where to go to get it. If me and the folks at TouchArcade banging on about how good it is isn’t enough then I am plum out of ideas. All I can do now is to tell you to go on over to iTunes now and check out the game on the App Store or go to www.thehectorfiles.tv to find out more about Hector : Fat Arse of the Law. If you don’t want to then don’t. But if you do, then do!
AppSpy.com, the iPhone games review site has posted a video review of Hector : Badge of Carnage on YouTube. It is one of the most entertaining reviews that I have come across since we launched the game. It is certainly the first time that I have heard Hector referred to as a young Joe Don Baker! And to be fair to Andrew from AppSpy the similarities are quite striking! Other than playing Brad Whitaker in the Living Daylights, Baker is most famous for playing Mitchell, an abrasive alcoholic police inspector. Sound familiar?
But back to the review. It starts by saying
“Hector: Badge of Carnage starts out in the gutter and only gets lower!”
which is a real compliment as we were aiming pretty low with some of the humour in this game!
A big thank you must go to Andrew for saying “It’s nice to see dedicated attention to detail” We thought that nobody had noticed the detail. The detail was my favorite bit of the game! So that was made me particularly happy. So if you haven’t checked out Hector : Badge of Carnage, listen to Andrew from AppSpy, who sums up the game pretty well:
“It may be lowbrow, but it’s still great fun to play through, especially if you have grown up with the classics Sam & Max or the Leisure Suit series”

Hector : Badge of Carnage, the point and click adventure game for the iPhone has just been included in another top games list compiled by a review site. This time it is the kind souls over at NoDPad. No DPad is an iPhone and iPod Touch gaming site that focuses on covering games that push forward the idea of the iPod Touch and iPhone being true gaming platforms.
Why are they called NoDPad, I hear you ask, or at least one of the voices inside my head has just asked that question. Apparently the name No DPad comes from a common complaint against iPhone gaming — its lack of physical controls, and a directional pad (dpad). This site aims to show that the iPhone and iPod Touch’s lack of physical buttons don’t limit its capabilities, but rather spark innovation because developers are forced to become more creative.
Well, that is exactly what we have done with Hector : Badge of Carnage by re-inventing the point and click adventure for the iPhone platform, with a ‘touch and slide’ or ‘poke and prod’ adventure game that follows the adventures of Detective Inspector Hector (The Fat Arse of the Law) and his exploits in the the crime capital of Britain – Clappers Wreake.
Clapper’s Wreake – the craziest place you never heard of. Such is the town that our hero Hector must save from terrorists. Sound ordinary? It most definitely is not. This is a point and click adventure made entirely for the iPhone and iPod Touch and a mature audience at that. The pressure of the safety of the citizens sits entirely on Hector’s back and he handles it well, traveling to several locations around town, and of course answering every demand the terrorist has made (first rule of negotiation with terrorists, ah never mind…). What brings you deeper into this story is the humor, the characters and the crazy antics. It is so refreshing to see a developer take such care with an app. Anyone remotely interested in the genre should give this a whirl.
I couldn’t agree more. And it is nice to see Hector considered in such high regard by a site like this. We are extremely please to see Hector considered as one of the best games of this genre and our thanks go to NoDPad for including us on this list. So I am assuming now that you are scratching your heads in anticipation of asking the question that needs to be asked. How do I get my own copy of Hector : Badge of Carnage? Well the App Store would be a good start, but seeing how you have been so well behaved through this post, here is a link right to the game itself. Click here to go directly to iTunes and download the game now or go to www.thehectorfiles.tv to find out more about Hector : Fat Arse of the Law. Now you go an enjoy yourself. You’ve earned it!
During one of my many sessions trawling the Internet for items of interest I stumbled across this new video review of Hector : Badge of Carnage on Techsposed’s YouTube Channel. Tech-sposed. Do you see what they have done there. Very clever. Anyway, why I was searching for the term ‘exposed’ on YouTube is irrelevant but suffice to say that the rumours about the Helen Mirren Sex Tape seem to be unfounded.
Alex from Techsposed has given Hector : Badge of Carnage a quick once over on his iPhone and has posted a video of his thoughts. Here are just a few of the quotes from the video:
“I’ve laughed more at this game than any game to date!”
“Incredible Cut Scenes. The animation quality is totally awesome!”
“Voice acting is Fantasic. The Story is Hilarious. If you want a good laugh for relatively cheap go pick up Hector : Badge of Carnage today! Cheap for a Game of this quality!”
“Pick this one up! You will not regret it!”
I particularly liked his comment about getting at least 3 hours of gameplay out of Hector, with potentially more if you’re not really that smart. Nuff said. It took me 2 weeks to get out of the cell!
If you have not checked out Hector : Badge of Carnage then hotfoot it on over to iTunes and pick up your copy!
