Exclusive First Look at Hector Game

For those of you with a nose for an exclusive, you have come to the right place. I figured that I had banged on about the game for long enough and that I should actually let you guys have an exclusive sneak peak at the game itself. The game by now needs little introduction, but while I am here……

We are currently in production of the iApp ‘We Negotiate with Terrorists’ the first installment of the trilogy of games ‘Badge of Carnage’, the first mobile application of the property Hector: Fat Arse of the Law. To date we have teased and titillated you with screenshots and posters and other such niceties, but nothing really competes with seeing the game itself first hand so that’s why we thought we would share it with you now to further whet you appetite for the game.

We don’t believe in keeping things back from the public who have to wait so patiently for releases of new games. We don’t agree with teasing the paying public with just still images and a lot of huff and puff about how marvellous the game is going to be, we actually wanted to go one step further than most people are prepared to go and release part of the game to the public so that they could see what they are in for. We wanted to go that extra mile as we believe that when you see the game you will be blown away by its grandiose scale and ambition. Not just visually, but conceptually, biologically, ergonomically, holistically, and quite possibly even spiritually.

So without any further procrastination on my part, I would like to unveil the exclusive first ever view of the much anticipated Hector: Fat Arse of the Law game ‘We Negotiate with Terrorists’.

Enjoy.

Smart Arse!

YourFace , MyArse!

Despite not really being a fan of the whole FaceSpace, MyBook, Twatter carry on, Hector has begrudgingly added himself to Facebook, where you can now follow all of the progress of the production of the ‘We Negotiate with Terrorists’ iApp.

Whatever you do, do not send him a Mafia Wars or Farmville request. He is likely to drive round to your house and impound your computer in disgust. Although I am sure he wouldn’t mind if you gave him a poke or two. Everyone likes a poke.

Exclusive Poster Artwork

Dean Burke, Hector’s creator and Straandlooper’s resident artistic guru, took a bit of time out from production of the first installement of the Hector: Fat Arse of the Law iApp – ‘We Negotiate with Terrorists’, to create this poster for the game.

HECTOR GAME POSTER

If you would like a copy of the poster please get in touch with us here at Straandlooper and we will send one out to you. Just send an e-mail to info@straandlooper.com. We might even get Dean to sign it. You never know it might be worth some money one day. He was in ‘City of Ember‘ don’t you know!

Hector iApp MIPCOM Exclusive

With MIPCOM fast approaching we are currently working flat out to have a prototype of ‘We Negotiate with Terrorists’ ready to show the list of potential partners that we have lined up meetings with in Cannes. The first installment of the series of Hector iApps ‘Badge of Carnage’ will not be available until late December, but a selected lucky few will be able to get an exclusive look at the first level of the game at MIPCOM and see what there is to look forward to in December.

Hector 1

Kevin, the lead programmer on the game, is currently working on packaging the first level of the game in a bespoke way that will allow people to sample the gameplay and get a feel for what the full verison will be like. We have a large number of meetings at MIPCOM with broadcasters, distributors, web aggregators and other production companies so the prototype will be an excellent tool in not just introducing people to the Hector: Fat Arse of the Law property but also in securing potential partnerships with people and, dare I say it, potential investment.

Hector 3

As I mentioned earlier, we are aiming to have the full game completed sometime in December with a launch at the end of the year, but the best laid schemes of mice and men, and all that. This Hector game is our most ambitious project to date, complete with original score, cinematic cut scenes, and all that carry on, so keep checking back here on the production blog for more up to date news and information on how far behind schedule we are!

If you will be attending MIPCOM and wish to meet with someone from Straandlooper then please do not hesitate to contact us at info@straandlooper.com

Hector: the Stake Out

As we continue at break neck pace with production of the first installment of the series of Hector iApp games entitled ‘Badge of Carnage’ I thought that I would help you get to know Hector a bit better seeing as you will be pointing and clicking the crap out of him soon!

Hector: That Stakeout – is the latest animated short from Straandlooper. It features Hector and Lambert on duty during a critical stakeout in the crime capital of the UK – Clappers Wreake.

For more information on Hector visit our website – www.thehectorfiles.tv – and keep checking back for more updates on Badge of Carnage – the best thing to hit the App Store since ‘Hold On!’

New ‘Badge of Carnage’ Hector Website

We have just updated our website to include information about the production of the Hector iPhone Game – ‘Badge of Carnage’

Hector Website

In case you didn’t know Straandlooper is currently in production of an iApp for their crime spoof property Hector: Fat Arse of the Law. The ambitious project, being created with the assistance of the Creative Industries Innovation Fund, will see Straandlooper produce a Hector mystery for the iPhone in the form of a classic point and click adventure game.

‘Badge of Carnage’ will allow players to explore all of the grimy corners of Clapper’s Wreake as you try and help Hector resolve the hostage crisis that has gripped the crime soaked town. Hector must solve a series of perplexing and mind bending puzzles in order to carry out the curiously altruistic demands of the terrorist who is holding Clapper’s Wreake to ransom.

The game will not only feature stomach churningly complex puzzles and bowel looseningly lurid graphics but it will also come complete with an original score, voice over and animated cinematic cut scenes. In fact the game will be so good that it will be just like solving the mystery yourselves, except without all the paperwork, oh, and the blood, violence , nudity, booze and cigarettes (at least in most cases, what you do at home is your own business).

Tell your story walking…

So work is underway in the production of the latest addition to the Hector brand – the iAPP game. Dean Burke – Straandlooper’s Head of Visual Development and creator of Hector, and Kevin Beimers – Straandlooper’s Head of Online & Mobile Development and resident iPhone whiz, have been hard at work coming up with a script for our proposed iPhone game.

Kevin and Dean thrash out the Story for the Game

Here we see Kevin and Dean thrashing out the story using a roll of wallpaper that Ali had brought in to the studio. I did say that budgets were tight. The story session is the most important stage of production as it is at this point where we can determine the level of work required to achieve our goals and then schedule our resources accordingly. Trying to strike a balance between what we can realistically deliver and what we want to deliver is always going to be one of the main problems we face as a company. Without the huge resources of companies like Lucas Arts and EA, we have to be very clever about what we develop in order to ensure that we do not waste any money and that any investment from the company will yield a potential return. But the Straandlooper team are used to working with tight schedules and budgets and have proved that they are more than capable of coming up with creative solutions to difficult design problems.

But never ones to make life easy for ourselves, rather than create a story for one iApp, Kevin and Dean came up with a story for a trilogy of games. To be fair the story that has been drafted is fantastic and promises to be an extremely entertaining game, but as Production Manager it is my respobility, no, my duty, to pour cold water on everyone’s ideas. While we do hope to produce 3 games, the CIIF fund that we have just received will be used to develop the first part of the trilogy and then we will look at raising the finance for parts 2 & 3 after we launch and deliver the rest of our slate of CIIF products.

Ali wondering what they have done to his nice wallpaper

The story sessions were extremely successful and have yielded what promises to be a really entertaining and engaging game. The only problem came when Ali came back into the studio after lunch and found that his wallpaper had been scribbled on. It turns out that he had been planning on wallpapering his downstairs walk-in humidor and that this was his sample roll from Harry Corry’s.
